Savvy companies are flocking to Facebook but not many are taking it to the level of the Gap stores.
The Gap has littered the internet with ads that link directly to their Facebook page, not a traditional Facebook page, but one that has video and flash applications to browse styles – a virtual runway where models strut the latest jeans and the user can click directly to checkout. The page also features videos of the head designers talking about fashion details.
To leverage the Facebook experience, Gap has also launched StyleMixers, an iPhone app. StyleMixers is social shopping app that allows users to mix and match from the store inventory and styles from their own closets. It also connects users with the Gap Facebook community. The killer part – StyleMixers uses the GPS feature in the iPhone to unlock special discounts when the user is near a Gap store.
Gap’s NYC 5th Avenue shop actually brings the interactive Facebook experience to life in-store. Shoppers can pick up their jeans, watch designers speak via videos and record and upload their own video to Gap’s gallery on Facebook.
In what is most likely to be hailed as a brilliant move, Gap is advertising heavily on cocoperez.com.
