Social Media Killed the New Gap?

The famous brand, Gap, learned a little something about branding and online communities last week that the Mad Men ad men couldn't have seen coming.

Gap has held their iconic logo for over twenty years, and when they introduced a more modern logo, it didn't have fans jumping up and down. Actually, the new logo was released quietly and without advertising, but fans still noticed. The iconic blue square that surrounded the white typeface of Gap was turned into a modern version that consumers didn't appreciate. read more

Blog Action Day Promotes Clean Water

This Friday is Blog Action Day. What is Blog Action Day? According to the the Blog Action Day microsite, it is "an annual event held every October 15 that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day with the aim of sparking a global discussion and driving collective action." Change.org is sponsoring Blog Action Day and so far, 3,500 blogs in 123 countries have signed up to participate. read more

Fast Company has a very popular online column that I try to always catch: Infographic of the Day. Today's infographic is a humorous look at "Facebook Portrait Styles" by author and artist Doogie Horner. Jury Orders Apple to Pay $625 Million

On October 1st the Tyler District Court jury found Apple guilty of infringing upon three patents. The court has ordered Apple to pay $625 million to patent holder Mirror Worlds, citing that the breaches are punishable by over $208 million per patent. The award is the second-biggest jury verdict in 2010, and the fourth-biggest patent verdict in U.S. history. read more
