Guess How Many New Magazines Launched in 2009
Gourmet, Cookie, Modern Bride, Elegant Bride, Country Home, Hallmark and Best Life all closed this year. While a collection of high profile magazines ceased operation in 2009, there were new titles that entered the marketplace. Just how many? The number may surprise you.
In a recent Folio article, Samir “Mr. Magazine” Husni, director of the Magazine Innovation Center at the University of Mississippi, stated that 752 new magazines were launched from September 2008 to September 2009.
In the same article, Husni listed his top 15 favorite magazine launches in 2009. The Food Network’s new magazine (creatively called Food Network Magazine) topped his list as the most successful launch this year. Other titles included Fresh Home (one of my personal favorites), Guitar Aficionado, Blurt and Ranger Rick’s Just for Fun.
