No matter what your business, if you are doing anything online, you are really in the content business, according to attorney Robin Mitchell Joyce. At a recent meeting of Digital Nashville, Joyce challenged the audience to identify any business – services, manufacturing, technology or anything else – that didn’t fall into one of three content business areas:
- Content Creation
- Content Marketing — falls into one of two categories: the marketing of content itself or the marketing of a product or service by wrapping it in content
- Delivery and/or Distribution of Content
Joyce was speaking on the topic of “Copyrights and Trademarks” which was interesting in its own right, but her description of all businesses as content businesses provided the perfect framework for the discussion.
