Social Media Has Gone to the Dogs, Literally

BOL (Bark Out Loud)

BOL (Bark Out Loud)

Come fall, our canine friends will be on Twitter. Puppy Tweets, a new device from Mattel (known for their Barbie empire) is a new sound and motion sensor that owner’s can put on their dog’s collar. The high-tech toy will generate one of 500 pre-recorded tweets when it detects barking or movements.

Some sample tweets:

  • “Can we get some sparkling water for the toilet bowl?”
  • “It’s not the catching of the tail, it’s the chase.”
  • “YAHOOOO! Somedays you just gotta get your bark on.”
  • “I bark because I miss you. There, I said it. Now hurry home.”

How it works: for $29.99, the human gets a USB receiver to connect to their computer. Then they download the toy’s software online and create a Twitter account for Fido. Each time your dog wags or snores, a tweet is sent and you’ll get a text message.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…what about cats? My kid’s hamster? For now, you’ll just have to live in the dark.
