Link Bait For Your Site

A frequently discussed topic at Parthenon is search engine optimization. This mysterious practice could be the answer to everyone’s problems – just turn up the SEO and we’ll be number one on Google in no time.

Unfortunately, it’s not that simple and, not to mention, search engines update their algorithms constantly. (Apparently Google changes its algorithm daily!) So what do you do in this ever changing environment? One key is to keep the content coming.

First, focus on what you do and provide value to your audience. New content means opportunities for naturally occurring keywords, your site stays fresh and up to date, visitors have a reason to come back and, most importantly, you increase the likelihood of your audience taking a piece of content and sharing it with their circles. These links back to your site (known as inbound links) are major factors considered by search engines, especially if coming from relevant, reputable sites.

The Essential Do it Yourself Guide to Successful LinkbaitI happened to run across this very detailed infographic from Voltier Creative on KISSmetrics, “The Essential Do it Yourself Guide to Successful Linkbait.” Putting aside the negative connotations of baiting a hook (since you will be creating relevant, credible content pieces for your site), this infograph does a good job of laying out a five step approach for building a strategy for content that people will want to share:

  1. Brainstorm
  2. Production
  3. Publication and Promotion
  4. Reviewing and Enhancing
  5. Measuring Results

Ironically, this blog post is an example of a successful inbound link strategy for KISSmetrics. I found their post helpful and relevant to the Parthenon readers, and by sharing and pointing you to their site to learn more, they have achieved their goal.

Good luck baiting your website hooks!
