Social Media Killed the New Gap?

The famous brand, Gap, learned a little something about branding and online communities last week that the Mad Men ad men couldn't have seen coming. Gap has held their iconic logo for over twenty years, and when they introduced a more modern logo, it didn't have fans jumping up and down. Actually, the new logo was released quietly and without advertising, but fans still noticed. The iconic blue square that surrounded the white typeface of Gap was turned into a modern version that consumers didn't appreciate.

Mind the Gap

Savvy companies are flocking to Facebook but not many are taking it to the level of the Gap stores. The Gap has littered the internet with ads that link directly to their Facebook page, not a traditional Facebook page, but one that has video and flash applications to browse styles - a virtual runway where models strut the latest jeans and the user can click directly to checkout. The page also features videos of the head designers talking about fashion details.
