Parthenon’s Road King Magazine Wins Nine Industry Awards

Road King magazine, published by Parthenon Publishing of Nashville, Tenn., won nine awards, including a Best of Division Award for magazine graphics, in the Truck Writers of North America Communication Awards given out at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.
The TWNA Communication Awards recognize excellence in trucking industry journalism in both the trade and mainstream press, as well as excellence in communication with the industry by public relations professionals.
Road King won magazine writing awards in the following categories:
- Bronze Award for Road Test: “Making the Grade,” by Paul Abelson
- Silver Award for Technical: General: “Inside Moves,” by Paul Abelson
- Silver Award for Best Single Issue: November/December 2008
- Gold Award for Entertainment: “The Real World,” by Chris Neal
- Gold Award for Feature: “Notable Achievement,” by James Proffitt
Road King won magazine design awards in the following categories:
- Bronze Award for Typography: “The Big Time,” by Michael Nott
- Silver Award for Total Publication: November/December 2008
- Gold Award for Cover Design: January/February 2009 Cover, by Michael Nott
- Best of Division Award for Magazine Graphics: January/February 2009 Cover, by Michael Nott
In addition, Road King Senior Editor David A. Kolman was honored with the TWNA Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the improvement of communications in the trucking industry. Kolman, a driver and journalist, has spent more than 25 years covering the trucking industry for print, radio and television. He is a founder of both TWNA and the Used Truck Association. He has been senior editor for Road King since 2005.
